Enabling LAN Access Under A Windows 2000 or XP DOS Boot Menu Choice

  1. Create 2 directories called disk1 and disk2 in a directory accessible via your Windows 2000 or XP DOS boot choice.
  2. Get ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/clients/msclient/dsk3-1.exe and place it in the disk1 directory.
  3. Get ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/clients/msclient/dsk3-2.exe and place it in the disk2 directory.
  4. Run the files to extract their contents.
  5. Download and extract DOS drivers for your network card to a directory accessible via your Windows 2000 or XP DOS boot choice.
  6. Boot to your Windows 2000 or XP DOS boot choice.
  7. Run the setup file to install the client using the built in options to install the DOS drivers for your network card and one of the protocols used on your network.
  8. If this results in insufficient conventional memory for non network enabled DOS games move the lines in c:\autoexec.bat containing a path equal to the install path you entered in the above setup to a file called netd.bat in one of your path's directories.

This will enable you to boot up with near your original largest executable program size (slightly smaller due to added  command to load a .sys file in config.sys).  Once booted enter netd at a DOS  prompt to engage the network support when needed.
